Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa and includes the islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia. The government continued to limit freedoms of peaceful assembly for opposition political parties. Additionally, government attacks on human rights defenders and the arrest of opposition leaders calling for peaceful, democratic protests were restrictions on freedom of assembly and association.
